Royalty Specialty Coffees is proud to announce our latest collaboration with Barinas Farm, a true icon of Brazilian coffee production located in the heart of the Cerrado Mineiro.
This partnership allows us to bring you the very best of modern coffee culture. Each lot reflects the farm’s deep-seated passion, not just for the bean, but for the environment itself. By working together, we further strengthen our commitment to the Direct Trade model, ensuring transparency and excellence from the soil to your cup.

About Barinas Farm: A Tradition of Respect for the Environment
Fazenda Barinas is a place where history, faith, and mystery meet. Its name, chosen by owner Márcio Borges as a tribute to the indigenous Araxás people, means ‘where the wind blows strongest.’ Rumor has it that these ancestors return under the cover of night to watch over the farm’s coffee. Set within a landscape of rare minerals like niobium and sulfur waters, this is land where prehistoric mammals once roamed.
Tiago, the seventh generation of the family’s farm, grew up following the daily routine of the farm and coffee production, which made this activity part of his identity. The decision to pursue coffee farming came naturally, combining family tradition, passion for rural life, and the desire to continue the legacy built over generations.
The early years were anything but easy. Previous generations faced immense hardships, working with limited resources and entirely manual processes. It was a time that demanded pure resilience and an intimate knowledge of the land. While technology and infrastructure have since transformed the farm into a modern operation, the core values remain untouched: unwavering commitment, daily dedication, and a profound respect for the soil.
Sustainability and Technology
Over the years, the farm has applied some significant improvements in technology, management practices, infrastructure, and market access. Production has become more efficient and technically advanced. Barinas adopts a structured set of environmental sustainability practices focused on resource efficiency and productive regeneration.
- Smart Water Management: Using specialized software, the team monitors and optimizes water usage in real-time, ensuring that every drop used in post-harvest processing is reused whenever possible.
- A Commitment to Neutrality: Through reforestation programs, spring preservation, and rigorous carbon emission inventories, the farm is a leader in carbon-neutral projects and soil regeneration.
- Economic Viability: By participating in carbon credit markets, Barinas proves that environmental health and economic success go hand-in-hand.
Regenerative Coffee: Restoring the Land with every Harvest
Barinas holds the Regenagri Certification, reinforcing its commitment to truly regenerative agriculture. Rather than simply reducing environmental impact, regenerative coffee farming focuses on actively restoring the land — improving soil health, biodiversity, and carbon balance so that each harvest leaves the ecosystem stronger than before.
At the core of this model is living soil. Through minimum tillage, cover crops, organic compost, and biological inputs, Barinas enhances soil structure and vitality. The results are clear: increased organic matter, better water retention, and thriving microbial life, creating a resilient “natural sponge” capable of withstanding challenging climate cycles.
Biodiversity is treated as a strategic asset. By establishing ecological corridors and diversifying tree species, the farm promotes natural pest control, reduces chemical dependence, and strengthens pollination — fostering a balanced, self-regulating ecosystem that elevates both sustainability and coffee quality.
Carbon Neutral Coffee: Paving the Way for Global Sustainability
Barinas has solidified its commitment to the planet by obtaining the CarbonTrack Certification. This prestigious Carbon Neutral status is a strategic climate management tool that proves the farm’s production has achieved a net-zero carbon balance. By quantifying every greenhouse gas (GHG) emission and neutralizing its impact, the farm ensures that its coffee is aligned with the most ambitious global decarbonization goals.
Achieving carbon neutrality requires a rigorous, data-driven approach. The certification process involves a comprehensive technical measurement of the farm’s entire footprint, calculating emissions from every stage of production, including fertilizer application, diesel usage, the drying process, and the logistics of global export.
The farm’s climate strategy is built on four key pillars:
- Precision Calculation: Constant monitoring of the production cycle’s footprint.
- Active Sequestration: Utilizing forests and healthy soil as powerful carbon sinks.
- Verified Compensation: Strategically offsetting any emissions that cannot be fully eliminated.
- Audited Transparency: Ensuring full traceability and credibility through independent third-party audits.
By balancing its ecological books, the farm provides its partners with a product that does not just taste world-class but actively contributes to a cooler, healthier planet. This is transparency in action, ensuring that every cup of Barinas coffee tells a story of environmental integrity.
Processes and Harvest
The post-harvest process incorporates technologies and technical control protocols to ensure standardization and sensory quality. Barinas uses a drying system with a boiler to ensure thermal stability and control of the temperature curve throughout the process. They also have vertical flow-controlled dryers, where drying is carried out slowly and in layers, promoting greater moisture uniformity among the beans.
The concrete patio was designed above the average operational capacity, allowing a larger volume of coffees to undergo natural (“sun-dried”) drying, with improved lot management and traceability. The farm develop microlots with controlled fermentations — using both wild yeasts and controlled fermentation protocols — with monitoring of time, temperature, and pH to guide sensory profile development.
The entire process is supported by continuous training and qualification of the technical workforce, with specific team training in post-harvest management, equipment operation, process control, and quality standards.
