BT102 comes from Cerrado Mineiro, in western Minas Gerais, Brazil. Known for its high plateaus, distinct wet and dry seasons, and established coffee-growing culture, the region is associated with coffees offering sweetness, balanced acidity and a substantial body.
Cerrado coffees often display chocolate, caramel and nut characteristics. The region’s seasonal climate supports harvesting and drying, while natural processing is widely used to produce the sweet, full-bodied style associated with Brazilian coffee.
The people behind the coffee
Family farms, larger estates, associations and cooperatives contribute to Cerrado Mineiro’s coffee economy. Their work combines generations of farming knowledge with technical assistance, processing infrastructure and access to international markets.
BT102 is supplied by Tristão, a Brazilian green coffee company with a traditional family coffee heritage and roots dating back to 1935. At its Varginha, Minas Gerais, operation, Tristão processes, stores and standardises Arabica lots for roasters around the world.
Three varieties, one lot
BT102 brings together Icatu, Mundo Novo and Catuaí, combining three established varieties of Brazilian Arabica coffee.
Icatu
Developed through Brazilian coffee breeding programmes, Icatu includes red- and yellow-fruited cultivars. It is known for its vigorous, tall-growing plants, with selected lines recognised for their cup-quality potential.
Mundo Novo
A natural cross between Bourbon and Typica, Mundo Novo became an important variety in Brazilian coffee production. Its vigorous growth, productivity and good cup-quality potential have made it a longstanding choice for Brazilian growers.
Catuaí
Developed in Brazil by crossing Mundo Novo with Caturra, Catuaí combines productive potential with a compact plant structure. Available in red- and yellow-fruited forms, it is widely cultivated and holds an important place in Brazilian coffee farming.
Together, these varieties connect BT102 with Brazil’s coffee-growing heritage and the breeding programmes that have shaped its farms. Their final expression in the cup depends on growing conditions, processing and roasting.
